A lesser-known, off-the-beaten-path laksa stall run by the incredibly friendly Mr. Ibrahim — his asam laksa is one of the best in Penang, and he also makes a mean roti jala.

The broth is a little sour, thickened from shredded mackerel — fishy but not too strong, well balanced, herbal with Vietnamese coriander, torch ginger, and mint. It's completely non-oily, eats halfway between a soup and a curry. The torch ginger flavor is what's really making it for me. It's also almost a salad at the same time. One of the best asam laksas I've ever had.
